You Get an API! Everyone Gets an API!
By David J. Saxton, President, The Computer Manager
Remember the Oprah Winfrey show? She liked giving extravagant gifts to members of her studio audience. This gift-giving culminated in the "You Get a Car" episode, which aired on September 13, 2004. Every single member of that show's audience was given a car.
To build anticipation, Oprah first called 11 audience members to the stage and gave each a new Pontiac G-6. She then told the rest of the audience that one more car would be given away to the person who found a key in their gift box. The twist was that every single one of the 276 audience members found a key, leading to the now-iconic chant: "You get a car! You get a car! Everybody gets a car!" You can watch a clip of the event here: Oprah, you get a car.
I've joked with our team over the past eight months that we are going to "borrow" and modify her slogan when answering the question, "Can we get an API?" Hence, the title of this article.
I'm thrilled to report that we are well on our way to delivering on that promise. So far, we have completed four new Application Programming Interfaces—APIs.
- Consumer Payment Portal API real-time update interface.
- Client Account Review Portal API real-time update interface.
- Reassigned Number Database (RND) API interface.
- Direct Voice Mail Drop API interface.
These are all currently available for purchase. Feel free to reach out to Julee for details on how they work and how they can help your agency. She can also provide pricing. One special note I would like to make—with a quick disclaimer first: I'm not an attorney, and I'm not offering legal advice. Please consult with your attorney for any questions regarding potential exposure under any state or federal law.
Based on my experience, if an agency is making direct voicemail drops or using a dialer to make outbound calls and is not scrubbing their numbers through the RND database, they could be creating significant exposure to TCPA violations—including potential class action lawsuits. But don't worry, the RND interface we have is ready and waiting to help you.
The list of APIs above is just the start. We are working with a leading industry vendor and are on target to complete another 4 APIs by mid-June 2026. The completion of these additional APIs will give our customers access to 25+ custom interfaces and services that were previously unavailable. When these APIs are completed, we will leapfrog the industry, and DebtNet$Millennium will offer the most services and options, helping our users connect with more consumers, provide faster, more efficient services to their clients, and ultimately collect more money.
Our goal is to write an API for every vendor in the accounts receivable management industry. A lofty goal, but one that I am absolutely certain we will accomplish. I've used the word "excited" quite a bit in my newsletters over the past nine months. Probably too much. So, I won't use it right now. However, I will say that the future is bright. Very bright. For current DebtNet$Millennium users, as well as for users of other legacy software systems who are frustrated by their providers' lack of development. We hope to bring these brother-and-sister agencies into the DebtNet$Millennium fold so that they, too, can realize a heightened level of success.
Thanks for reading. Have a great month!
